Slide 7

Imagine you see a picture of a heart made of puzzle pieces. That's a visual metaphor, telling us that love is like putting pieces together to make something whole. Visual metaphors are all around us, especially in art, advertisements, and even movies. They help us understand big ideas by showing us something familiar that represents something more abstract.

Slide 8

You can present these options on Slide 8, and students can choose one of these themes for their main activity:

Theme Option 1: Nature

Exemplar Metaphor: "The sun was a golden coin in the sky."

Explanation: In this metaphor, the sun is compared to a "golden coin" to convey the idea that the sun is bright and valuable, just like a precious coin. This comparison helps us visualize the sun's radiant and warm qualities.

Theme Option 2: Sports

Exemplar Metaphor: "His determination was a locomotive charging down the tracks."

Explanation: In this metaphor, determination is likened to a "locomotive" to emphasize its unstoppable and powerful nature. Just as a locomotive charges forward with force, determination propels someone to achieve their goals.

Theme Option 3: Friendship

Exemplar Metaphor: "Their friendship was a sturdy bridge over troubled waters."

Explanation: In this metaphor, friendship is compared to a "sturdy bridge" to highlight its supportive and dependable qualities. Just as a bridge helps people cross over challenges, friendship provides support during difficult times.

For each theme option, encourage students to brainstorm their own metaphors that relate to the chosen theme, and then guide them to create visual representations of these metaphors in their digital posters during the main activity.
